Class Description

Are you a writer with a book coming out—or someone who participates in literary readings—but feel uneasy about standing in front of an audience? Do you worry about mumbling, reading too softly, or losing people’s attention?

This workshop is designed specifically for writers who want to master the art of reading their work aloud. Because when you step up to a microphone, you’re not just reading words—you’re connecting with an audience, and you never know who might be in the room. A great reading can help you win over new readers, expand your fan base, and sell more books.

What You’ll Learn

Through interactive exercises and direct coaching, you’ll learn how to:
• Avoid the pitfalls of monotone delivery, mumbling, or rushing.
• Project confidence and clarity—even if you’re nervous.
• Handle a microphone properly and use it to your advantage.
• Navigate timing, including how to pause for laughter or audience reactions.
• Transform your reading into a performance that resonates and connects.

Why It Matters

Just as writing is a craft, so is reading your work in public. In today’s literary landscape, your live presentation is often just as important as the words on the page. This workshop will give you tools to elevate your presence, make your readings memorable, and leave audiences wanting more.

What to Bring

Please bring 1–2 pages of your own writing—something you’d like to practice reading during the session.
