Social Justice Improv Project

About the Show

Artists have the power to instigate social change. Through satire, live theater has been a forum for artists and audiences to challenge oppression, criticize dominant culture, and inspire action.

The Social Justice Improv Project (SJIP) is staging a preview of our current project: a semi-scripted comedy of intersecting stories and characters inspired by our lived experiences, sourced from the feminist classic Our Bodies, Ourselves (Boston Women’s Health Book Collective) in conversation with Sister Outsider (Audre Lorde) and Pleasure Activism (Adrienne Maree Brown), and developed through improvisation.

This show will be followed by a talkback with the cast and artistic directors about our development process and the role of comedy in social justice.
