(Perfomer)

Torrey Shine is a free spirit with an analytic mind. Her spoken word blends personal narrative with social commentary, engaging the audience through a mix of rhythm, rhyme, wordplay, wit, body movement, humor, and soul. Torrey loves to mash up genres. Her original series Mashed POET-atoes won the 2021 "Best in Fest" Award at Camp Improv Utopia's Tiny Fest, featured at the 2023 Steel Stacks Improv Festival, and was nominated as the "Best Theater Production" in Pittsburgh PA two years in a row. As a storyteller, Torrey is a 3-time Moth StorySLAM winner, National Storytelling Network GrandSLAM finalist, and she was recently featured on the PBS GBH World Channel Series Stories From the Stage (curated by Stellar Story Company). Torrey published her first poem on television at the age of 8 (Boston’s WLVI-56), and has gone on to compete in poetry slam at the national and international level. She featured at the 2014 Glastonbury Festival – where she very regrettably set-clashed with Dolly Parton. Torrey’s poetic video project "2020 Hindsight on COVID-19: A Pandemic Poem of Reflection" launched as part of PIT Solocom in 2021, and won the “Spirit of the Fringe Award” in the 2022 Pittsburgh Fringe Festival. You might have also heard this two-time (undefeated) winner of the Jam Cruise Gong Show talking about voting rights on TEDx or NPR Here & Now. Torrey started studying improv at Pittsburgh’s Steel City Improv Theater in 2018. She has also taken classes in storytelling, sketch, and both musical and non-musical improv at the Magnet Theater. You can see Torrey performing as part of Rococo during the Magnet LiveWire Sketch Series
