Surriya Ahmad

Bio
(Performer)Surriya was born in Louisville KY, a surprise blessing if you ask her parents or an accident if you ask her siblings, one who was 18 when she was born. People think she knows a lot about horses but she just likes them a lot, but definitely ask her about the Kentucky Derby. The first half of Surriya’s improv career was short form improv and she studied with Automatic Improv in Atlanta GA and has been on various short form teams in KY and NY. She currently improvises with goat party 🐐🎉 and Halalrious, and produces All Mixed Up: an improv comedy show celebrating mixed-race comedians. She is also an emergency medicine doctor, internal medicine doctor, and did a geriatric emergency medicine fellowship, which right now means she’s an ER doctor that likes older adults a lot. She’s also half Pakistani and half American, which also helps explain why she is a doctor and comedian at the same time. She plans to one day take that 23 and me she bought so she can figure out what’s going on with that other half of her. Stay tuned. Surriya loves improv so much that she took an improv workshop in Spanish when she studied abroad in Madrid after undergrad before medical school, and also continued performing throughout medical school, and the Covid 19 pandemic on zoom. At least one has described her improv as “it reminds me of that time on snl when everyone really liked each other and everyone got along.” And she was once told to make sure her characters “aren’t so weird that they become a threat to society.” She has had the privilege of being taught or coached by improv greats at the Magnet Theater, UCB and beyond in NY, Atlanta, and Louisville including Armando Diaz, Jamie Rivera, Michael Lutton, Elana Fishbein, Louis Kornfeld, Peter McNerney, James Dwyer, Amanda Breen, Zack Willis, Donald Chang, Jeremy Bent, Devon Ritchie, Donna Steele, Charlie Nicholson, Kay Mollica, Blake Opper, Andy Abramson, Andy Coen, Stefan Gearhart. Surriya led an improv workshop for older adults in Brooklyn for the first time this year, and also really likes clown, dessert, cards against humanity, snacking all the time, and running when not eating. She used to play competitive tennis and wants to play again while she still can, so please contact her if you do too. She said she wasn’t gonna write a real bio or cry but both happened.
