Wendigo
Description
wendigo |ˈwindiˌgō| noun (pl. wendigos or wendigoes) (in the folklore of some northern Algonquian peoples) a cannibalistic giant; a person who has been transformed into a monster by the consumption of human flesh. Wendigos are embodiments of gluttony, greed, and excess: never satisfied after killing and consuming one person, they constantly search for new victims. In some traditions, humans who become overpowered by greed can turn into Wendigos; the Wendigo myth thus serves as a method of encouraging cooperation and moderation.
