Creating Parody with James Folta
Class Description
Taught by the co-creator of the parody magazines The Neu Jorker and Paul Ryan magazine, this class will discuss strategies to come up with and expand satirical premises and angles for both longer and shorter humor projects, how to write close to the voice and tone of what you're satirizing, and how to use these tools to make a point with your work.
James Folta is a writer and editor. He has been published by The New Yorker, McSweeney's, Topic, Funny or Die, Vulture, and more. He co-created The Neu Jorker, a full, cover-to-cover parody of an issue of The New Yorker, as well as the political satire magazine, Paul Ryan. He's the managing editor of Points in Case, and is co-creator of The Satire and Humor Festival. All this and more available at jamesfolta.com.
