SUSP - Intro to Stand Up! with Alex Simmons
Class Description
Write and develop your first five minutes of comedy material with Magnet’s improv infused stand-up comedy class! In this one-evening elective class you’ll learn how a joke gets made from amusing idea to a gut-busting stage bit. An infusion of improv games selected to work your writing chops and get you prepared to own the stage by yourself, combined with writing and feedback makes this class the Magnet Theater approach to stand-up. Whether you dream of headlining at clubs or just nailing your wedding toast, this class is for you!
Alex Simmons has been making people laugh since the tender age of 7 when he appeared on David Letterman's "Dave Talks to the Kid's" segment on The Late Show in 1994. Earning his BFA in Acting from Adelphi University in 2009. Alex's comedic performances can be seen in the works of NYC's Film Repertory Group and on Amazon Prime's Comics Watching Comics. Turning his focus to producing in 2015, Alex has booked comedy independently as the floating comedy brand "The Cackle", and recently at NYC's iconic Piano Bar and Cabaret Don't Tell Mama. Don't Tell Mama Comedy was mentioned in the New York Times, Now This News, Broadway World and featured a rotating weekly lineup of established and up-and-coming comedy and cabaret talent in NYC. Pulling from multiple theatrical disciplines including improv, clown, masks and more, Alex proudly brings a unique approach to stand-up to Magnet Theater.
