Class Description

Simply put, you'll learn to improvise. In Level One, students will get onstage immediately and explore the fundamental principles of improvisation through exercises in agreement, commitment, spontaneity and listening. Sessions are designed so students will build a strong foundation as a confident performer. You will amaze yourself with your new found skills at the class graduation performance in front of your friends and family. This show is always fun and usually the highlight of most people's lives. Open to all.

Instructor: Rick Andrews

Rick Andrews is a teacher and performer at The Magnet Theater, and has been studying, performing, and teaching improvisation since 1999.

He began improvising with Improv Boston, and continued with a stint in Saint Louis, MO. He is an adjunct at Columbia University, teaching in the MFA acting program, on the board of The Unscripted Project, and has taught at hundreds of festivals, theaters, and companies around the globe.

At Magnet, you can see him in The Armando Diaz Experience and Kornfeld and Andrews.

Instructor: Melissa Ulloa

Melissa Ulloa first started doing improv in Palm Beach Community College in 2007 and loved it but then kind of stopped doing it when she went to a fancy schmancy drama school, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where she got her BA in Acting [Collaborative & Devised Theatre]. (That's right I put the 'r' before the 'e'. Deal with it!) While she loved and learned so much from her super serious actor training she just couldn't stop her love affair with improvised comedy. She has since studied at iO, UCB & Magnet. She's currently on an all Latinx indie team called CHUCHO and on the Magnet house team Big Whoop! She also coaches improv and has created/conducted a vocal workshop for improvisers called Use Your Voice! AMA. Melissa loves her life a lot and this is about as much as Melissa can bear to write about herself without feeling sick. She does not like writing bios but needed to confront this weird aversion. Thanks for reading! Melissa is gonna go throw up now.
