Context & Connection with Ro Rovito
Begins: Nov 17, 2024
Ends: Nov 17, 2024
Price: Pay What You Can
Class Description
Almost every successful improv scene comes from two key pillars: Connection (Who are we to each other? What do we want/need? How do we affect one another?) and Context (Why are we here? What events led us to the moment? What events created the lens through which we view the world?). This workshop will focus on exercises that hone our relationship-developing skills and learn how to create characters that are meaningful to one another in a scene. We'll also explore how these characters' fuller lives beyond the scene allow us to extrapolate the larger world of a series of scenes. This is a scene-work-heavy workshop focused on developing the tools we have in our toolbelt to create personal stakes and investments in our scenes.
Ro Rovito is a comedian, artist, and dork from New Jersey. They have been an improviser for over a decade, studying improv at UCB and Magnet theaters. Like most improvisers, they've been on too many awesome indie teams to count and was previously on Torpedo! on Megawatt. Ro was also a writer and performer on the long-running and much-loved Livewire sketch team Rococo (no relation) and has been a director in sketch workshops such as Ringers and Moxie. They are currently a writer on the Livewire sketch team Money & Things. When they’re not listening to podcasts to avoid thinking hard thoughts, they can be found playing video games, painting miniatures, or doing dumb bits for tiktok.
