Piano Workshop

Piano Workshop with Frank Spitznagel

Class Description

I have been involved in teaching musical improv programs at UCB, the PIT, and foremost the Magnet Theater for over a decade. With so many singing improvisers in the NYC area, now is the time to get the accompanists on the same page. I've heard from improv singers who have been taught structure that when a new accompanist comes in, they're confusing to follow because they're not listening properly to the singers. This is an easy fix that one 3 hour workshop will cover. We'll work on the structures that are being taught in music improv classes (basic A-B-A structures) and the accompanist will be taught how to listen to the singers to create these structures together. You will be introduced to the best improv singers in NYC and learn what they need from an improv pianist. A good knowledge of music theory (form and analysis) is needed. This workshop is great for pianists, guitarists, and any other rhythm players.
