Improv Electives Classes

Do you have a brilliant idea for a video? Of course you do! For comedy sketch writers, creating video content is one of the fastest ways

In this class, you?ll learn all the fundamentals of creating and producing your own sketch video in two simultaneous tracks.

In track one, you?ll create hands-on by utilizing your smart phone to film your original 1 to 1.5 minute sketch. You?ll learn to finalize the script, storyboard, cast your sketch, run your set and direct and edit YOUR video. In track two, students will shadow a professional DP as we select one class sketch to film as a group, utilizing pro lighting & sound and a DSLR camera.

Professional guest instructors will present tutorials in camera functionality, editing, and crowd funding, and a field trip to a local film rental house will teach you basic equipment options.

Prerequisite: To apply candidates must submit a 1 to 1.5 minute comedy sketch that you want to film. Email a PDF of your script to videocreationclass@magnettheater.com. In the subject line of the email include your full name. Students should have access to a smart phone with video capability and access to iMovie (or an editing program equivalent).

This class is open to all writers, with preference to current and former Magnet sketch writing students. No video experience required.

"The video creation class was so much more than I even expected. On top of receiving great feedback on my written script and video, I was also exposed to a side of professional film making that I had never seen before. The guests that came in to speak on their areas of expertise were both very knowledgeable and friendly. One of my favorite aspects of the class was being introduced to the folks over at Du-All Camera rental and learning that I had the option of renting high quality equipment at incredibly reasonable rates. Joe is not only a great filmmaker, but also a very passionate teacher who is willing to go above and beyond to make sure students get the most out of their experience in the class. I can't recommend this class enough!" ? Jen Anderson
