The Black Convention: East Coat Improv Night – Sunday, Feb. 16!

We sat down with Delmar Dualeh, show producer and member of the Megawatt team Diet Coke, to talk about The Black Convention: East Coast Improv Night, coming this Sunday!
Magnet: Delmar, tell us about what's happening at the Magnet this coming Sunday, February 16.
Delmar: We have a night of shows called "The Black Convention: East Coast Improv Takeover." It's like a mini festival! Three slots at 6pm, 8pm, & 9:30pm featuring different teams during each hour. Black teams from theaters throughout NYC as well as from Philly, DC, and Baltimore will be performing. Teams like Lena Dunham, i blame tyler perry, NYTEShift, 2fifs and more!
Magnet: What was the inspiration for this mini festival?
Delmar: I was inspired by the Juneteenth reparations show. Last year I put on "It's Almost Black History Month" in January featuring local teams, and it was such a success. Then I continued putting on shows throughout the year with Black History Month in the title, even in April and July because I'm just so clever.
Magnet: What was your experience like producing those shows?
Delmar: Putting on those shows helped me build community with black improvisers from theaters all throughout the city. I was recently inspired by all these talented teams from around the country I saw perform at The Black & Funny Improv Festival in Rhode Island, and I'm grateful to be able to bring some of them to the Magnet community.
Magnet: Anything else we should know about the night?
Delmar: I cannot guarantee you will learn anything about black history, but black people will be making you laugh. Now do your part and show up with all your friends!
