Musical Improv Level Two with Greg Moss and Michael Lutton
Class Description
Taking the fundamentals you learned in level one, Musical Improv Level 2 shows you how to make your improvised scenes and songs look and feel more like a Broadway musical! Exercises in listening and emotional commitment will give you the solid scene-work you need to launch into songs. Also, you will explore different song styles, learning about want songs, philosophy songs, charm songs, and metaphor songs. 8 weeks of classes followed by a class performance. Prerequisite: Musical Improv Level One
Greg is a writer, performer, and accompanist from New York City. He holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. As a playwright and composer/lyricist, his works include Tabletop Cabaret: Hedgepig Races (The Brick), A Hundred Thousand Places (NYU), The Dowager Duchess Explains It All For You (24 Hour Plays), and The Great Cat Massacre (St. Luke’s Theatre, off-Broadway), among many others. He contributed music to the film birth/rebirth, which was nominated for multiple Independent Spirit Awards. He has studied improv at Upright Citizens Brigade and the Magnet Theater with the likes of Jason Mantzoukas, Tara Copeland, Jean Villepique, and Michael Lutton. He loves music and improv, but not half as much as he loves his wife, Danielle.
Michael has been a Magnet instructor since 2011. He has travelled the country performing in festivals and has taught workshops in Boston and Washington, DC. He has also taught several corporate and team-building workshops.
He began improvising in 2006, and was lucky to train with teachers such as Armando Diaz, Rachel Hamilton, James Eason, and Tara Copeland.
Michael currently teaches Level 1, Level 4: Monoscene, Musical Improv Level 1 and Musical Improv Level 3.
In addition to his teaching duties, Michael is the Director of the Musical Improv Program at the Magnet.
