Class Description

Taking the fundamentals you learned in level one, Musical Improv Level Two Intensive shows you how to make your improvised scenes and songs look and feel more like a Broadway musical! Exercises in listening and emotional commitment will give you the solid scene-work you need to launch into songs. Also, you will explore different song styles, learning about want songs, philosophy songs, charm songs, and metaphor songs. 5 days of classes followed by a class performance. Prerequisite: Musical Improv Level One

Instructor: Michael Lutton

Michael has been a Magnet instructor since 2011. He has travelled the country performing in festivals and has taught workshops in Boston and Washington, DC. He has also taught several corporate and team-building workshops.

He began improvising in 2006, and was lucky to train with teachers such as Armando Diaz, Rachel Hamilton, James Eason, and Tara Copeland.

Michael currently teaches Level 1, Level 4: Monoscene, Musical Improv Level 1 and Musical Improv Level 3.

In addition to his teaching duties, Michael is the Director of the Musical Improv Program at the Magnet.

Instructor: James Navan

James Navan is a pianist, singer, actor and improviser. As a musician, he holds a Masters in jazz piano from Queens College, has toured the world with groups such as The Glenn Miller Orchestra, and performed at many of NYC's finest jazz venues. As you may have heard though, musicians tend to take stuff way too darn seriously, so he's glad to have gotten into improv over the past few years at awesome places like Magnet. He loves performing musical improv both on the piano and as an actor/singer when he gets the chance.
