Class Description

Join our 4-day workshop focusing on song, movement, and theatrical scene-building. Each day is dedicated to a different aspect, culminating in a final class show.

Day 1: Song - Experiment with the various elements of music to create more dynamic and melodic improvised songs using song structures you know and playing with ones you may not.
Day 2: Movement and Dance - Explore purposeful movement, group-mind-choreo and backline movement techniques.
Day 3: Stage and Scene - Learn about stage positioning, focus, and blending rich scenes with songs.
Day 4: Integration - Bring together all elements and prepare for the evening's class show.

Followed by a Class Show

Perfect for those looking to deepen their musical improv skills in a focused, hands-on environment.
Prerequisite: Musical Improv - Level 3

Instructor: Christopher Bell

Chris majored in theatre way back when the Greeks made it a thing. He's been in NYC for about 16 years and throughout that time has produced play festivals and shows including an award show for the advertising industry. Chria has been in the Magnet improv scene for about 10 years now. He performs regularly in Premiere: The Improvised Musical on Fridays, The Armando Diaz Experience on Saturdays, and is co-producing and performing monthly in Undressed: The Musical (all shameless plugs).

Outside of the Magnet, Chris was in a run of BLANK! The Musical, and has done shows with Baby, Shitzprobe, Empire, Queens Secret Improv Club (oldie but a goodie), and various indie shows. He teaches workshops to teens, adults, and corporations on musical improv and reg improv at the Magnet. When Chris is not improvising, he's managing a small youth performing arts organization here in the city.

Instructor: Ammon Taylor

Ammon Taylor is an award-winning pianist, composer, and music director. By day he accompanies dance classes and teaches music to children and adults alike. By night he rehearses and performs with the best musical improv performers in New York. Even later at night, he writes musicals.
