Class Description

Widen your sketch repertoire or just get some more writing reps in with this 4 week long Sketch Elective. Writers will be given weekly writing assignments in character and premise prompts. Students will hone their voice, practice pitching, and work on generating ideas for ourselves and each other. No prerequisites necessary.

Instructor: Amanda Xeller

Amanda Xeller is a character comedian, sketch writer, and director residing in Brooklyn. Her work has been featured across the United States, Canada, and as a part of several Sketch Festivals including most recently San Francisco (Jan 2025). She won the Lifetime Achievement Award at Montreal Sketchfest '22.

She’s been on Adult Swim, Disney+, in music videos, short films, on podcasts, etc. She's competed in 3 comedy competitions and won all of them baby!

Amanda produces Character Night, which is regarded as one of the best character showcases in NYC, and the annual Moxie Sketch Lab for women, trans, and non-binary comedians, which gives comedians a crash course in writing and performing in an original sketch show.

Amanda graduated from the Terry Knickerbocker Studio Acting Conservatory in May 2024. She has studied comedy at the Magnet Theater, Annoyance NY, & Upright Citizen's Brigade and clowning at Movement Theater, Barrow Group, and with Complicité in London, England.

Amanda’s originally from Houston, Texas. She’s a runner, a drummer, and lover of horror movies.
