ATTN: Diversity Scholarship Applicants…
Magnet Theater is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2024 Magnet Diversity Scholarships.
The Magnet Diversity Scholarship Program was established in 2016 to create opportunities for people to study improv so that the Magnet population more accurately reflects the city we live in, both on stage and in the classroom.
Selected recipients will receive credits that can be used towards Improv, Musical Improv and/or Sketch Writing! Due to the limited number of scholarships and the expected number of applicants, applications will be competitive. We encourage applicants who were not awarded a scholarship previously to re-apply.
Please note that electives are not covered by the scholarship. Additionally, certain upper-level classes require an approval process. Receiving the scholarship does not guarantee automatic admission into classes with an approval process. If you are approved, your scholarship will be applied towards those specific classes.
The Magnet Diversity Scholarship Program is aimed at increasing our diversity of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, and age. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to apply as the scholarships are open to those who have never studied at Magnet, as well as to those who have partially completed the program.
This application has two sections: General Information and some short essay questions.
Our hope is that these questions will help us get to know you a bit better. We're imagining a few sentences for each question and they all have a 1,000 character cap. If you'd prefer, you can submit a short video response instead of a written response; simply paste a video link (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) into the response box. We request that each video be one minute or less.

Applications are due Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024 by 11:59pm.
There will be an Info Session at Magnet Theater on **Saturday, Jan. 20th from 2:30 - 4:30pm**. Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend to meet with current Magnet performers and Diversity Scholars. There will be a Q&A session from 2:30pm - 3:30pm followed by the Diversity Jam from 3:30pm - 4:30pm for those interested to improvise on stage.
Interviews, for those selected, will take place the Thursday, Feb. 29th through Tuesday, March 5th. Please note that not all applicants will be selected for an interview, however, everyone will be informed whether or not they will receive an interview by Feb. 28th.
The new class of Diversity Scholars will be notified on Friday, March 15th.
