Class Description

Wanna learn how to build a narrative solo show for all your funny characters but don’t know where to start? In this six week class we'll use writing prompts and improvised exercises to discover unique characters. Matt Alspaugh is a Magnet Sketch Director who has also directed and co-written one man shows at The Producer's Club. This class will explore students' own brand of character work that will allow you to eventually develop your own show.

Instructor: Matt Alspaugh

Matt is an actor/writer/director from Waterbury, CT with big dreams and an even bigger heart. "Dinosaur Jones" is his third Magnet house sketch team. His improv and sketch training at The Magnet, UCB, and The PIT has given him the opportunity to develop his comedic chops under the tutelage of Armando Diaz, Louis Kornfeld, Molly Lloyd, Peter McNerney, Rick Andrews, Ari Voukydis, Bradford Jordan, Sarah Nowak, and many more. Matt also performs for the children's theater company "Story Pirates" as well as the Off Off Broadway interactive theater show "Accomplice." He loves performing with Brad Howe on their New England themed indie sketch duo, "DAVE." He's performed at the Chicago Sketch Festival, New York Sketch Festival, The Montreal Sketch Festival, and The Del Close Marathon. He's directed and co-written separate one man shows at The Producer's Club and The Arthur Seelen Theater at The Drama Book Shop. Go talk to him about anything. He'll listen.
